British-Yemeni Society International Conference – ‘Yemen: Challenges for the Future’ – Sponsored by MBI Al Jaber Foundation
The British-Yemeni Society held a two day conference to discuss the challenges facing Yemen, sponsored by the MBI Al Jaber Foundation and hosted by The London Middle East Institute (LMEI), SOAS. The British-Yemeni Society two-day international conference brought together academic and professional specialists to discuss recent research on Yemen and the challenges ahead. The conference was opened by HE Sheikh Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber, UNESCO Special Envoy; Alan Duncan MP, the UK Minister of State for International Development; Noel Brehony, Chairman of the British-Yemeni Society and Hassan Hakimian, MBI Al Jaber Director of the LMEI. Keynote speeches were given by Dr Abubakr al-Qirbi, Yemeni Foreign Minister and Dr Muhammad al-Saadi, Yemeni Minister of Planning & International Cooperation. Both ministers expressed their sincere gratitude to LMEI and to Sheikh Mohamed for their help and support in organising the conference. More than eighty delegates attended the Conference Dinner on the evening of 11th January, sponsored by the MBI Al Jaber Foundation, which took place at SOAS. Guests included leading academics and regional specialists, representatives of the Yemeni Government and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
